The Executive Director Underwriting– Construction is a critical member of our organization and is responsible for:

  • Overall management of Construction Based practice areas to growth and profitability with an emphasis on Casualty based products.
  • Continued new product and program development and associated teams.
  • Handles complex construction risks
  • Implementing and reviewing new and broader underwriting strategies and products in cooperation with the internal business development team
  • Working in close cooperation with the internal Program Manager(s), Compliance and Filings, Loss Control, Actuarial, Claims and other internal business members
  • Leading program underwriting audits and other meetings with program partners as required

Ideal team member would possess the following skills:

  • Utilizes current data and initiates customized information to interpret pricing and exposure trends
  • Actuarial fundamentals. Ability to understand loss trends, loss triangles, and ratemaking. Ability to quantify risk based on experience history and forecasting methods.
  • Marketing and Communications. Ability to sell and negotiate to achieve bottom line profitability for the Company. Ability to make presentations and communicate articulately. Ability to base communications on strategic thinking. Ability to manage underwriting decisions in relation to company strategy
  • Initiates appropriate actions to sustain profit on the Construction Book
  • Develops pricing, coverage form, and guidelines proposals
  • Recognizes and evaluates the impact of risk transfer and various pricing mechanisms, and recommends appropriate action to enhance long-term profitability
  • Offers creative solutions that contribute to achievement of business goals
  • Assesses rate adequacy of book relative to exposure assumed
  • Interactive process of developing and satisfying existing and prospective producers/customers consistent with Citadel’s Mission

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years underwriting experience
  • Strong marketing, sales and presentation skills are required
  • Ability to develop strong broker relationships
  • Must have excellent negotiation and communication skills
  • Must exhibit solid team orientation with proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a changing business environment
  • Ability to work well internally with varying levels of zone/branch management and underwriting personnel on communicating Construction Practice appetite/issues
  • Knowledge of underwriting concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
  •  Ability to self-manage, organize, and prioritize work with limited direction.
  • Enhanced leadership skills
  • State Licensing – where required

· Ability to travel as needed.
